87 300sdl...turbo not working suddenly

286,000 miles and now the turbo isn't cutting on. What can I check? Where do I look for info? Is it o.k. to drive until the turbo is fixed? Thanks.

Your not going to have any power with no turbo, is it completely dead?
Have you tried spinning the blades by hand? I hope you don't have the Nasty Trap Oxidizer in place!

No turbo...

Not even sure it is or isn't the turbo fer sure... it is just really slow all the sudden and doesn't feel as if the turbo is cutting on. Could it be starved for gas with a clogged inline fuel filter perhaps? Haven't tried spinning the turbo by hand and wouldn't know how as I just bought it a month ago. It just used to go 90 and now it goes 70! Thanks.

Do a search for "switchover valve" and for "overboost protection" (same thing, two names), the most common cause for a lack of boost power. Check the air filter and fuel filters, make sure the wastegate actuator rod is attached to the wastegate.
