Best Tranny Shop- LA Area

Hey guys iv been all up and down this forum for weeks trying to diagnose my tranny woes. Im a overall newbie but have read and tested as much as I possibly can.

Can anybody reccomend a good tranny shop to take in my 85 300SD to get it looked at. I know it can be fixed rather easily because i know that when i pull my #10 fuse it works like a charm. There are alot of tranny shops here but before i pick one blindly i was wondering if anybody has any references.

I am located in the Los Angeles Area- specifically in the San Fernando Valley

Thanks!

The best guy in SO CA is Transmeister in Orange. MB transmissions only. Only uses factory parts. First cabin, end of story.

The rest of the guys aren't.

I don't own an SD and never had but the kickdown switch is the only electrical item for the transmission (could be wrong). The balance of the transmission is controlled by vacuum, a single cable and levers. What else does the #10 SD fuse control?

Likely there are other issues that are appear to magically fix themselves by disconnecting the magical #10.

Does he charge for estimates? if so, how much? I have a reallly good MB mechanic but he does not work on transmissions specifically, only as part of the entire car. Id like something a little closer to home since Orange is about 70 miles from here, but if all else fails ill have to make a mini road trip sometime soon.

I'd recommend German Motor Car Service in Santa Monica -- on 15th just south of Olympic and north of the 10 freeway. If the owner, Herbert, can't fix it, he'll know the right person to take it to.

I recommend Enrique at MB Motors in Tarzana. He doesn't work on trannies, per se, but when mine went he knew exactly where to send it at a great price. It's now like new. Best MB mechanic in the SFV, IMHO.

I normally go to george at MBZ motors in winnettka. He offers amazing prices for top quality work. If you get the parts through him, often he will discount labor charges. Great mechanic, i wish he were a doctor instead.

Does Enrique charge for estimates?

Don't know for sure, but I think Enrique does not charge for estimates. I second DanaB's kudos for Enrique. He has always treated me fair and didn't even charge for some small jobs.
