When I had R-134a, it was acceptable up to about 90F. Try it at 105F, while stuck in traffic. If you are happy with it, that's all that matters.

It is important to note that Dan has an W126 which has a larger condenser, so it can handle R134a better than a W123.
Having said that, his vent temps are impressive!

Up, you can get "acceptable" performance with R-134a if everything is perfect, but it's more trouble than its worth compared to running R-12 IMHO.

Also, the '85's condensor has twin tubes running thru the fins making it a bit more efficient than the older single tube condensor.

Other than that I honestly can't say why this one works so well. My 85 SE was marginal with R134 so I installed freeze 12 which cools well.

I was ready to order a PF condensor but had to get it going in the meantime. I'm happy with it so far.

Agree. If it had not been previously converted by the PO and I had R12 available, that's what would be in there.

That's pretty much what I was going to say. I have r134 in my '86, and I haven't been disappointed with it yet. I also haven't seen what it'll do when it gets hot (100's). I don't actually think I have heard any bad things about r134 in w126's yet.

Thinking about that...has anybody tried to put the condenser from a w126 in a w123?
