still looking for 2.47's which will fit w123

in my search for gears, the cheaper solution to the 5spd shortage in the w123 supply chain, I have come across this post here which of these will fit my 82 300CD so I can make a list to take with me to the bone yards.

R107
---------
380SL,SLC RATIO 1:2.47

380SL,SLC,560SL RATIO 1:2.47 ABS

W126
---------
380,500 RATIO 1:2.47

380,500,560SEL RATIO 1:2.47 ABS

420SEL RATIO 1:2.47

Thanx

The W126 is easiest and most common. If it has a V8, it has a 2.47. Only the I-6 g@ssers and all Diesels got lower ratios.

there was a 85 380SE in my pick and pull but the rear had a finned cover. I passed on it because it looked different. will that be ok for my coupe?

There are so many V8 gasser w126s in the boneyard up here......how many do you want? Should I pull one for my 300SDL? Anyone done that yet?

Ditto, they are dime a dozen up here. I can think of at least 6 different cars in the junkyards here right now.

when i was looking last week it was for an 82-84 380SE, i was under the impression that the 2.47's were more rare. now that I am armed with more info i will look again. any thoughts on the finned cover? will that rear work in my car, would I need to swap the cover for mine? same pinion?

I'm interested in one too. I live just South of Amarillo, TX. I am looking for either a 2.47 or a 2.88. There aren't any around here in the salvage yards.

You don't want that finned cover.

I have a nice plain one for you to trade for.

So the 85 w126 380SE 2:47 will not fit the W123? Darn I just found an 85 380SE with 201202 miles. Looked like it was garaged it`s whole life, can`t figure out why it`s at PNP.
