87 300D or 91 300D
I'm trying to decide on 2 cars right now and need some opinions on which you guys might choose.
A. 87 300d - 210,xxx miles. New brakes, oil and trans fluid changed regularly, good suspension, power everthing works besides head rests. No A/C. No trap oxidizer, #14 head but coolant system is in good shape. B. 91 300d - 309,xxx miles, rebuilt trans with approx 2,000 miles on it. Working A/C, good brakes and tires, decent interior (maroon) and good exterior. I don't know much about the 91 engine or car in general.. i know the 87 is a faster car. Both cars for same price also so my one factor right now is the A/C but let me know anything else or what you would choose. Thanks!

309K is a lot of miles. I wouldn't invest in an engine at this mileage level when a similar vehicle can be obtained with 100K fewer miles.
Once the engine gives up the ghost (and it will), the vehicle is usually scrapped. |

Less apparent is pressure in the cooling system on the morning after a drive. Squeeze the upper hose. If it's very stiff, open the cap. If it's now soft..........avoid the purchase. Any history of coolant disappearing (if you can pry this info out of the seller) must be viewed with extreme caution. A cracked head is over $2K if you do it yourself..........makes the investment an immediate disaster. |
