The price of the fuels does not bother me.....I could care less that diesel costs more....it has more energy in it....so it makes sense that way too. Fuel is by far the least of my auto-owning costs.

The car does have sentimental value. I only had it for 8 years. I am typing here because I am really agonizing over the whole deal.
In a year my motorcycle loan will be paid off. In another 3 years my school loan will be paid off. After they are paid I will have another $400 in my pocket every pay. Hopefully my Subaru will last until both loans are paid off. The Subaru is not worth selling. It has 260,000 miles. It runs fantastic but the body is rotting away. I need a 4x4 to replace it when it goes. When it does go, I was thinking of getting an Audi A8. I would love to keep the MB and have the Audi but selling the MB would pay off some bills and speed the process. I am just thinking ahead. The MB is a luxury for me. I really don't NEED it but I love it. It would also shorten my "to do" lists, with 8 bikes and 3 cars I have plenty to do.

There may not be a dollar difference between gas and Diesel in the same station. But here in Santa Cruz between one station and another there is a good dollar and ,more.
Day before yesterday it was $4.99 at the Union 76. I remember back when we had the first so called gas shortage in the 70`s. long lines, even day`s odd day`s, red flag, green flag if they had gas or not. sometimes you could only buy 5 gallons. and gas was 50 - 55˘ a gallon. we went to the 55mph all across the country to save fuel. guess it worked because later on we had all kind of fuel and the 55 was dropped. we were told to drive small, think small etc... sounds familiar to what is going on now. wondering if some bright politicion is going to come up with the 55 again. I notice when I drive around I see the larger PU and Suv`s in parking lots for sale more than I use to, people are trying to unload while they can. and also see a few more Diesels for sale. people are getting to the panic mode. VWBUG, I can`t tell you one way or the other if you should sell your car, that is a decision you will have to make I don`t know your financial situtiation. you should go where your heart is and maybe it is VW`s and not MB I don`t know. I think you said something about your WVO supply drying up and maybe that is why you bought the MB in the first place. I think it is foolish to sell it, these are great cars even if we do have to tinker with them all the time. new cars I don`t think they can be tinkered with. Charlie ☺

Quote by Compress Ignite=The United States Refiners have large unused refining capacities laying
dormant at this very minute. What you're suffering from is largely "Speculation" by the controlling forces of the marketplace. Compress Ignite, I couldn't agree more, but lawyers paid for by liberals have a lot of these refineries locked up in court battles even though they could be brought online easily with some upgrading! Yes, there is a lot of speculation in the market place setting market price, but let's not forget that crude oil shot up by more than $9 a barrel right on the heels of the idiot liberal Democrats who decided to make it possible to sue Opec in court for high gas prices! Yeah, that will work! And let's not forget that this has been coming for more than 30 years!

Just last year my '79 300D would have fetched about $1500. Today it's closer to $2500 and going up. The reason is the growing interest in biodiesel, veggie fuel and the like. And that interest is growing.

Yeah right....and be at the mercy of the dealer to fix any of the ten billion computerized things on it... One repair at home on my SD saves me enough money in labor at the dealer to buy diesel for MONTHS of driving....so its beyond well worth it to own these cars.

Diesel is 75% more than what it was just last year. Because large trucking companies can pass along their prices, the independent trucker and individual driving a diesel vehicle feels the inflation. Furthermore, demand will NOT decrease for diesel the way it will for gasoline as people decide on more efficient means of transportation.

I seem to have read several posts where you are spouting this nonsense. Here is some news for you buddy, this is not "the rest of the world", this is the USA. It's left wing globalists like yourself that are going to bring this country down. If we would use the natural resources at our disposal, and our elite military to protect them, we could have $2.50 fuel while "the rest of the world" pays $8, thats how it should be. But alas we find our govt controlled buy nutless tree hugger evironmentalist whackos who find it unfair that we pay less than "the rest of the world". Let me guess, Obama '08 bumper sticker?

This is getting off-topicy and has nothing to go with the orginal point of this post. It doesn't make any different to vwbuge who's to blame for the diesel prices ... the poor dude just wants some advice on what to do with his car. Again, my advice ... hold on to the MB and see what happens.

Don't waste your time, this guy is not a conservative as you or I would define the term. But he does seem to define the phrase, "embarassing sense of entitlement."
