trans not engaging

I found another car today 300d- which the owner said the trans is shot. He says he can rev the car in gear to 2K and it won't move. Might it just be the famed K2 piston kit I've heard about? or does it sound more like a toasted trans?

No, it sounds like either very low fluid or a linkage problem. We would have preferred that you checked the fluid prior to posting. Diagnosis is a process of elimination. So because you are there and we are here, you need to do the leg work. If the fluid is between the 2 marks and it smells burnt thats where the term "toast" comes from and is a fairly good indicator of a failed transmission.

Like the above post said, I would look for something else. If this car is not rusted out and everything else look ok, this could be a good buy even needing a rebuilt transmission if it came to that. Check again and look at the fluid level and color/smell and report back.

I bought a car that had a supposed bad transmission, but the owner didn't even know to check the fluid while the engine was running. He kept checking it with the engine off and there wasn't enough fluid to keep it in gear!

I've not seen the car, but the current owner has 5 benz, but I don't know his level of mechanical ability. Before I take the hour drive, I'm trying to educate meself on what I might look for.

What year is the 300D? Sometimes it can be a really simple issue, otheres may require repair.
