Accelerator pedal fix, with photos

I was on the freeway today when suddenly, with a gentle *thunk*, the accelerator pushed back at me, and I found that I could only depress it about 1/2" before meeting strong resistance. I pulled off to a surface street and found that the little rubber bit that connects to the throttle linkage had come off (photo #1, here's what it should look like). The hinge here is made from molded rubber, same as the rest of it, and I guess it just decided it was tired of holding on.

I figured I could drive without the pedal at all, by just pushing on the throttle linkage, but that seemed sketchy. I could also push the pedal hard enough and it would work, but I was worried about it getting hung up in some rubber bit or other and sticking open.

So I made a new hinge from a framing nail, and wired it back together (#2). I put about 30 miles on it since then, and it works perfectly.

It's not permanent; I'm ordering a new one from Phil.

I've found that the accelerator pedal is common to many chassis.

The W126 will interchange with the W115/W114 and the W123 at least, there may be others.

There is also an early version and a late version.

Early has a gimbal rod attachment, later uses the plastic hinge.
