I was watching CNN and this hypermiler was actually turning his car off while coasting off the highway. He was also pushing his car out of the driveway and gives the car a running start before he fires up the engine. I suppose if you had a manual transmission and some muscles...

That only shows he doesn't know how his car works. When a fuel injected car is coasting on the highway in gear it is not consuming any fuel since the computer stops the injections.

Some people get a little nuts, fuel ain't that expensive.

I spent more on booze last night than I spent on fuel last month.

Wow you could save a couple weeks a year by flying. Of course all those fancy airplanes have ABS, so that's not gonna work for you.

Been there, done that. Used to fly about 100K per year; it sucked before 9/11, now it's completely unbearable. I'm done standing in security lines and sleeping in airport terminals waiting for delayed flights. Besides, they won't let me drive.

This hypermiler guy is nuts. Personally, I would never do that much just to achieve...whatever.

I remember reading that he parks at the top of parking lots to coast down, takes off ramps at 50 with he engine off..sounds like too much effort to me. He'll be surprised when his starter dies and he can't turn it back on in the middle of the highway! So much for honda reliability there!!! (sorry, i am biased against Honda)

its called bumping the engine over without using a starter. It just like roll starting a car, which you never use a starter. duh

Some of these guys are talking about removing bumpers and interior parts, I dont think safety is a factor

You might be safer in a econobox than in a w123 with no dashboard, no bumpers, no rearseats, etc.

I wouldn't bother with the 288, go for the 247, IMHO.
