Hood Pad Adhesive

I am in the process of installing a new hood pad into a 1985 300D turbodiesel.

Location is South Florida where hood receives heat from all sides.

Which adhesive should I use?

I have been told that "Liquid Nails" can withstand the heat and will do the job.

How does one apply pressure on the pad so that it adheres properly to the hood?

I recommend 3M spray adhesive-it's intended specifically for this job. If you follow the instructions, you only need to hold the pad to the underside of the hood for a short time; it's pretty sticky stuff. To apply more even pressure and avoid damaging the hood pad, apply pressure to a big piece of cardboard so it'll distribute the pressure.

It REALLY helps to have two people do the procedure. When scraping off the old hoodpad and glue, place a tarp over the engine bay so that all that gunk doesn't get into the nooks and crannies of the engine.

Make sure you clean off the old adhesive first with 3M Adhesive Remover. It'll instantly dissolve the old grimy stuff but won't bother the paint.

The following links will give you more info. I never use Adhesive Remover. Just scraped off the old stuff and got very good results.

Adhesive for hood insulation 92' 300D 2.5 Turbo

'85 300SD hood insulation - needed?
