$3000 and you get: A car raped by greenbenz, 350K miles and the tachometer, gas guage, central locking system do not work?

Great deal!

Hmm....I don't think that it has been converted, but that he only suggests that it can be. Regardless, 30 MPG in town is a 'tad' high.....not to mention the other things that you mentioned were wrong......could easily be lots of work, and with 350K.......I don't think so.......

I don't know what you guys are talking about, my SDL gets 35mpg around town and I floor it from every stop. Also its totaly maintaince free until 500k miles. You can also run it on free WVO, just dump it right in the tank.

I`ve seen cars in Pick N Pull better shape than that.

Also if the "gas gauge" (haha) doesn't work, there's a good chance it was mucked up doing some "experimental" SVO using. I would buy the car if he lowered the price by about $2500.

Folks, i think everybody lies about fuel mileage same as they lie about their paychecks. My guess based on owning 300SD is the 5cyl turbo delivers 26mpg tops. When are we gonna quit BS'n each other on this?

Maybe his odometer is stuck.

I got 28.19 MPG last tank with a mix of highway and city.

All hail the German Iron!!! As though touched my God's hand.....

Amazing how often you see this (I know you're kidding, Hatterasguy). Somehow people get the impression these cars operate beyond all logical parameters. Well built? No question. Built to last? Certainly! All go a million miles at 40mpg on old WVO at 90mpg....ummmmm, no.

Rumours are an amazing thing, aren't they! One of the few things that always grow, despite the weather.

Well, FWIW, mine isn't an SD, but as I've been tinkering with it a little for the month since I bought it, I have seen improved mpg. My first tank was 90% highway and I only got 24.5 mpg (336mi/13.7gal).

My last tank in mixed commuting (lots of stop-n-go) I got an even 27 mpg (405mi/15gal). And I haven't even adjusted the valves, or done anything to the intake or exhaust yet. Straight up stock car with some minor tweaking to the ALDA, the EGR blocked off, and the tires pumped up to 44 psi.

If I can pick up yet another mpg or two somehow, I'll be more than satisfied.

Under very special and carefully followed driving conditions its possible to see around 30mpg with an SD with the 617.....but rarely. If you drive all 50-55mph, no city driving, and take off very gently from stops and coast a long ways to stop signs and red lights, you can see 30-31, I've done it a few times on trips.....but its not easy to hit.

I usually see about 24-26. Last night I filled up and got 24.9....not too bad.

I'll just be happy to get 23 out of this tank. Other than two very breif WOT runs (just through 2nd gear) I have kept the RPM's below 2k.

I got 23 mpg on my last tank in the 116 SD. Not bad considering the trunk and back seat were loaded down with about 250+ pounds of stuff.
