Inoperative Odometer

My odometer on my 300D was working fine, although it would stick ocassionly. Now, it has stopped completely. The tenth wheel looks burnt for some reason. Is there a way to fix this problem, i.e. lube? Or do I replace it? Thanks!

Imagine that... a 123 with a busted odometer

Sorry...inside joke....We've had more busted odometers on this forum, than me and you have fingers and toes.
You can try a search on this site, or you can go straight to here http://dieselgiant.com/repairyourodometer.htm pictures and instructions.

Search here too though... you never know what addtl. info you find.

Good Luck!

the wheels can be safely cleaned with isopropyl rubbing alcohol on a qtip once you get in there... it's really easy. not as complicated as Russel makes it out. just reach up there and push out the cluster, while your hand is in there, unscrew the speedometer cable with your hand, then gently reach down from above and unscrew the oil pressure line. follow russel's instructions carefully to open everything up, and do this on a large table with a white towel on it. the trip lever will be loose too, so go ahead and pull it out, and use it in place of the drill he talks about, then once you get the gear pushed in a little, take a pair of vice grips and knurl the end of the shaft and push the gear back on. put it all back together and clean up the numbers on the odo. all fixed.

Hopefully your gear is just slipping and not broken like mine was. Did everyone pay $25/gear ($65 for all 3) to fix yours? There has to be a cheaper place than that.... I didn't want it fixed that bad. lol
