Went to a local starter/alternator rebuilder. No charge, a bit big, I had to sand them to fit. Left $2 on the counter when his back was turned.

My blower has the brushes right under the fan, and I can't get to them. Does anybody know how to remove the fan?

Hello from a long-time lurker who has learned so much from the collective wisdom on this forum. It looks as though I will have done just about everything by the time I'm done fixing up my 85 300D, so it's I good thing for me I found you guys.
I finally had to register to say that this DIY repair worked a treat. Even my mechanic was impressed. This fix set me back $11 (okay, $16, to tell the truth, but only because I broke a brush. Stupid learning curve.) as opposed to $120 (plus shipping) for an aftermarket blower assembly. Brushes can be found in any decent hardware store (and also True Value, where I went!). Just get some that are close to the original size. They are easy to sand to fit. I do recommend saving and reusing the original springs as opposed to the ones that come with the brushes. The hardest part is folding the little tabs back in place with the springs in place. Dont bugger up either the tabs or the springs. Happy trails to all. |
