83 240D vacuum lines

When I bought my 240d someone prior had adjusted the valves. BUT, all the vacuum lines going throught the firewall from the switch on top of the valve cover are disconnected. The line that goes to the tranny is hooked up but I'm questionable if its at the correct position. I've viewed the vacuum diagrams on this site but still can't figure them out. The hvac does'nt work correctly. The door locks don't operate. I took and guessed on one line and connected it and the a/c compressor clutch engaged but would not shut off.
Any help would be appreciated..

Do you have any photos of the current configuration? There are quite a few lines, I'm not sure where to start other than the vacuum diagrams. Which diagram were you trying to use?

It was the link on this website for diagrams. If I can take a pic of mine can I email that? If so, it will be a little bit. Thanks.

Attached photos are from the OP's car. It looks like someone really hacked this up. Any suggestions on how he should proceed?

Is that a Cali-emissions car?

It's got two switchy things on top of the valve cover, my 240D from the same year does not.

My '83 has the entire valve box on top of the valve cover, it look like his has the switches with the box removed.

FWIW, this is what the subject areas look like on my '83 240D.

Thanks for the comparison pics. Maybe I can figure something out. It's no wonder the hvac, door locks and cruise control don't work. Thanks again.

It explains the door locks, but not the cruise control (completely electrical). If you car has manual HVAC that shouldn't be affected by vacuum either.

If you need help chasing specific lines, I'll check my car and see if I can help.

I know I have been bringing dead topics back to life all week, and I apologize... I just got my second diesel (have a w115 and now added a w123) and I have the same set-up on top of my valve cover... and my mechanic today recommened that I change out those 2 white "switches", if that is what I should call them. He said they were something to do with the transmission and that I needed to be certain that I got all the vacuum lines back on it exactly as they were. One side releases a tab, and the other one does not, and he said I needed to change it. However, after searching this site and ********az, I have can't find what these pieces are. Can anyone assist? By the way, does this mean this is a Cali emissions car? It is an original Alabama car, bought right up the road from me new.

Thanks for the photo reference, Craig.
