Help!! Locked keys in the car!!
1987 300TD Wagon. Shut the door and the doors locked. Key in the car (my only one!). Also in the car is dinner and the cat food. Am I SOL or is there a way in.
Thanks, Joe

Call a locksmith, there are folks driving around in vans that specialize in this. Look in the yellow pages.

I had the same experience with my '87 300D-T sedan. I had the keys in the car with the doors unlocked but the battery was disconnected for a project. When I reconnected the battery, the door lock mechanism activated. Oops!
A call to AAA produced a couple of guys who pried the door open a bit with plastic wedges and then used a metal hook to unlatch the lock. You might be able to do the same thing yourself, providing you accept the risk of possible damage if you get over-zealous with the wedges. The only other way is to take your VIN and proof of ownership (registration) to a dealer and get a new key. The cat will be unlikely to wait, however. Jeremy

I got it open. I pried the driver's door at the top corner and used a coat hanger. Got a few scratches but finally got it open. Dinner was cold but eatable.
Thanks guys!

Don't forget to order a spare key and put it away someplace outside the car.

Yeah I'd never feel safe with just one key, I have my keychain + remote for the car, and I have 3 extra keys laying on my desk. (My car came with all 4!)

Yes I really need to get a spare key. I'm always worried about losing it at the beach etc. I have been hesitant because of the suspected cost, but it would have saved alot of aggravation and possible expense last night!
Thanks, Joe

If you are a MBCA member, a key should not be very expensive. You just need the VIN and proof of ownership. Well worth the cost if you loose the original key.

Oh they are great! They work on every MB made except for the "guard" versions. If you do decide to try a "guard" car's window make sure to dodge the tool as it comes back at you.

I actually tried tp break the fixed window on the rear door with a hammer. Covered the window with a towel and Whack Whack Whack.
Strong window. I'm glad it did not break. I then took the more patient route with the wire clothes hanger.

If the car is not in a bad spot I'd just order a new key, my dealer can get them in a day or so. If you ordered it yesterday they would have had it tomarrow. Should be around $20-$30.
