Rear axle gears question

Does anyone know where I can find info on what rear axle gear ratio came installed in my 84 300 CD turbo? Also, what exact year/models have a higher ratio rear differential that will be a direct bolt-in for my coupe.

I've seen references to the stock gears being 3.08, but also that there are rear differentials out there with 2.88 and even 2.47 gears.

Seems like maybe the 2.47 might be a little too extreme and kill my off-the-line acceleration. The 2.88 ratio sounds like a good compromise though.

Any specific years and models of MBs that have a 2.88 rear that will bolt in directly without any mods?

1976-1981 300D/CD= 3.46
1978-1980 300TD=3.46
1981-1984 300TD=3.07
1982-1984 300D/CD=3.07

No W123 ever came with a ratio higher than 2.88

Your '84 has a 3.07 (also known as a 3.08).

All the '85's have the 2.88..........but only the '85.

I thought about pulling, I thought too long .

I guess I should have clarified that as I understand it there were some gasser rear ends with the 2.47 ratio that will fit.

What I'm most unclear on, is how hard are they to swap? Direct bolt-in or significant mods required?

What ever you use, you will need the corresponding speedometer.

Bolt on, the front diff mounts can be a PITA.

Can we give this thread a W210 spin?.......

What are the gear ratios that exist for the W210 series?

You'd think between the E300, E320, E400 that there would be some choices.

Are there?

Sorry, but your reply seems a bit cryptic - are you saying the gasser diffs are direct bolt in, but the front mount on ALL the MB diffs is a pain?

Any details on WHICH gasser diffs are a direct bolt in?
