w124 trans shift question
My 95 e300d starts out in 2nd gear, shifts to third and then immediately (1/2 second) shifts into 4th. So in ordinary driving situations I essentially have a two-speed automatic(2nd-4th). If I apply lots of pedal, I can "spread out" the shifts from 1st-4th, greatly enhancing the drivability of the car. My question is : can the vacuum modulator be adjusted to spread out the shifts to start in 1st and go thru all gears into 4th--like an american or japanese car would?

IDK on the '95, but on earlier cars there is a downshift cable from the throttle linkage (engine) to the transmission, sounds like this has come loose or needs adjustment.
The downshift cable (aka: bowden cable) is responsible for the RPM of the shift, where the vacuum modulator is responsible for the harshness of the shift. |
??
What does 'IDK" mean?

I Don't Know

I can't be 100% positive, but I believe it does. The electronic 722.6 trans didn't come out until 97.
