1978 300sd engine/AT into a 1969 220D W115 Chassic?
My 1969 220D MT with W115 chassic is giving me lots of gear shift and transmission problems. have change the gear and clutch over 7 times. the car have a over 300,000 miles when odosmeter stop me the 5th owner.
Because I love that W115 chassic so much I will like to over haul and put one of those bullet proof rebuild 1978 W123 300sd cast iron automatic transmission, engine, and a used (RWD) drive shaft train. My question is can it be done? Has anyone done this before in the forum? Can you pleasegive me some advice on how to what to and the pros and cons? By the way, I plan on never selling my Benz, I'll repaint it and re uphuesty it and use it as an everyday car. thanks dpl |

The automatic is not cast iron, and all of them are RWD but it can be done. You will need to make custom engine mount arms, or possibly find some from a W115 300D, relocate the oil filter housing, have find or have made a drive shaft of the correct length made, and various other little things. It would be best just to find a W115 300D and swap everything over, or just fix what ever the issue with your manual box is.

That is not an easy swap due to oil filter location vs suspension parts. The vacuum vs mechanical fuel shutoff is another challenge. Best bet is to try to find an engine from a rusted out 115 240D. That would be a relatively easy swap.

Those are both W115s though, this guy wants to put a turbo 617 in his, which brings other issues in to the mix.
