Putting a1978 300SD engine into a W115 220D chassic

Hi Guys,
I have a w123 Mercedes Benz 1969 220D MT. I love that car chassic (w123). I paid $1,000 for it 4 years ago. I just started driving it more often 5 months now because of the high 35mpg it gives me. It have over 300,000 miles on it and the odometer does not work any more and I have changed the clutch and gear over 7 times now. Now thanks to the forum I found a true benz mechanic in vegas his name is Iran located 325 s decater where my 220D is because it will not go in gear.
He told me that the gear was put in wrong and the car has no aircondition.

Because I love that W115 chassic and the Adlunner chassic, I want to do a complete over haul. But insteat of rebuilding my 220D MT engine I want to only use the W115 classic modern chassic of my 220D and completelly over haul using a rebuild W123 1978 300sd bullet proof engine, automatic Transmission, (RWD) drive shaft train as well as a new A/C system.
Can this be done? Has anyone done it before in the forum group? And can someone please give me some advice on how to proceed as well as the pros and cons?
thanks guys looking to hear from your all
dpl

it's doable. Search the threads in the diesel forum and vintage forum for the examples.

I think if the oil filter is on bottom and not on top you will be fine.

I believe it will be a bit tight around the turbo though.

Good luck.

i did that conversion about 15 yrs ago.you will need the motor mount arms from the 617 motor and there is the issue of the back of the motor[oil filter housing hitting the firewall] to overcome.
