A/C on '85 300TD

The A/C compressor on my '85 300TD is toast.

What years can I use a compressor from?

For example, the part # of a compressor from an '85 is different than from an '83.

Are these years interchangeable?

Thanks

They are interchangeable from any 1980 & later MB that used that R4 Delco compressor.

There are also many remans out there for $125 & less.

When you get your compressor, you might want to check into the location of the oil passage. I have read that the part with the 'X' can just be unbolted and rotated to the correct orientation. Don't know how true that is though. Something to look into.

FWIW, I installed a reman compressor in the 'wrong' orientation a couple of years ago and haven't had any problems with it yet.

The R-4 is a sumpless design. Clocking only affects the position of the electrical connection of the clutch coil.

while you are looking, check the price for a compressor on an 86 chevy astro... should be the same unit.
