Diesel Purge, help...

Hello all,
I am trying to figure out how to do a diesel purge on my 1995 E300. So, I’ve been going through the search function of this and other forums and found some excellent info. I got the return line pretty much figured out, but I just can’t figure out how to hook up on the fuel intake line.
Where and how do I disconnect the white plastic fuel line for the intake? Pics would help!?!
Thanks in advance.

Thanks rkohut - I looked at that earlier today, but it really doesn't help me. The configuration of the hoses is different than on my car. I really am not that mechanically inclined to digest that info into something I can use.

I disconnect the fuel hoses at the firewall when I do DP. Then I connect some spare hoses to those and submerge them in my jar of DP. Some people choose to disconnect the plastic lines at the fuel filter but I feel that's more work.

does your fuel tank have 2 lines exiting it? those will be the fuel supply and return. if you disconnect the lines and have fuel spraying out of the tank, then you have a pump in the tank... I know nothing about the fuel system of the fords... trial and error are gonna be needed.
maybe you can take a pic of your engine compartment, and we can better see what you are dealing with and help you that way.

From memory.....

1) Disconnect the line that exits the fuel thermostat (at cly head) - (oppo end enters the top of your pre-filter) and connect an extension hose to that line. THat is the feed line.

2) At the fuel filter housing there are three lines up top, disconnect the hose clamp (the middle line?) and pull the hose leaving the TEE installed in the filter housing and connect an extension hose to the stub of the tee. That is the return line.

Put both extansion hoses in hte the temp fuel supply, in this case DP.

DONT run it dry.

DieselAddict- To do this, I guess I would have to remove my air intake? Seems like everything in this car is buried under there...

vstech - Thanks, but I don't think I want to go as far as disconnecting hoses from the fuel tank...

...fuel system of fords. - Uh?

If I had a camera, I would.

TMAllison - Thanks, I think I got the return line down pretty good. I can see what you are saying about the feed line. Now, how do I disconnect the fuel line at the fuel thermostat? Does it just pull up? I made a quick attempt, but my fingers are about half an inch too short and a little too thick to go under the air intake. Can I disconnect the line at the fuel pre-filter (seems a lot easier, if I can only figure out how to disconnect the hard plastic line)

DieselAddict - I followed the fuel lines and it seems like they go right under the windshield washer reservoir. Do you remove it to get access to the fuel lines?

On my '96 which has a slightly different engine compartment layout the windshield washer reservoir is not in the way for this job. But moving it out of the way is easy and quick. As far as removing the air intake I don't think you need to do that even on the '95. If you do, then the other method described by TMAllison would definitely be preferable.

You've got to get fuel to enter into the pre-filter and keep it sealed up some way. The white horseshoe clip is a spreader, it must be pushed tightly closed to remove the line. You'll prob need a broad blade screwdriver to help. Just be gentle.

I took an old fuel line and cut it in half and kept it as a "tool". Then you just pop the prefilter line and stick in tool. Takes 1-2 minutes.

TMAllison - I pushed the horseshoe clip in as far as it would go with a long screw driver (I think I heard a faint click?) then I tried to pry it up with the screw driver and it just wont budge. I stopped because I'm afraid I might break something.
What am I doing wrong?

They are pressed in tightly enough to deform the oring eventually whihc is why it is difficult to do by hand when clearance is tight.

Check to see that the shoulders of the clips holding the line down have been spread enough to clear the lip that retains them. You might need to use a small screwdriver to help clear them. Then it should come off.

I've just about given up! I pushed the clip in as far as it would go, made sure the shoulders are about as square as I can get them through the very confined space and it still wont budge....#%&$!
I think I'll call it quits today and try it again tomorrow... I feel like such a dimwit!

TMAllison - your instructions make perfect sense, I guess I'm just not able to make my fingers do the work. Like I said, I'm going to give it another shot tomorrow morning. If I brake anything, I'll be giving you guys another holler... Thanks for the help!

The worse thing that will happen is that you bugger that line and then you'll have the handy "tool" avail to do it the next time.

They are tight and that one is impossible to get to by hand w/o the IM beign off. Just make sure he clips holding it down at free and then pop it off. You can use the screwdriver to get down force on it when its time to install too. Make certain you hear a duoble click as it seats.
