motor/trany swap HELP!!!

Ok so I put a 1983 Mercedes 300SD drive train into my Jeep:

http://bb.bc4x4.com/showthread.php?t=123204

The problem....No power!!! When it was in the car it had power could cruise all day at 70mph.

First the truck weight about = to the car (estimate less then 4,000lbs)
Gear ratio 4.11 with 32 inch tires should turn 2,700rpm at 62.5mph (100km/h)

here is the problem I have no power at all. I can get 50mph on flats and no power on hills.

It has the electronic automatic... I realized I do not have the electronic pressure control rigged up (think I left the part on the car that was scrapped due to rust).

So any ideas on how to rig the pressure control or set to full throttle since that seems safer then no throttle setting.

what other issues could I have?

I have a 2-4lbs lift pump at the tank to the injector it goes through new filters (2 before lift pump and stock filters at motor all new). Motor starts no problem with or without glow plugs (factory relay wired in). Engine burns clean no black smoke.

Since it all worked in the car I want to get back to it running that way before I adjust the injector pump or anything.

I am now living in the truck in the bush collecting field data for my graduate studies so it will be a week or so till I can check here. but help is needed.

Basically I was going up 6-7% grade (10mile climb in low range on the transfer case engine, no power 10mph and temperature started climbing from 190 to 220 so I shut it down and got towed (550.00 dollars later). Now I am in the bush but need to get it running....Help please!!

Thanks David

Boost? Linkage? Are you hitting full stop on the IP?

I bet the ALDA did not get connected to properly in the swap and is not getting the boost signal.

Post pictures of this thing!

3 Attachment(s)
ALDA??? What is that..

I have all the original equipment on the motor except took off cruise control and the rod that went to the fire wall (thinking now it had an electronic throttle position for the tranny??)

Copied the vaccum line pages and going to go through them....

IP opens full I have a cable pulling the old cruise control linkage. I am off the the bush tonight...

Here are some photos I will add new ones with the camper once I down load my camera. I will be off email for a week so please reply and I will check. The Jeep is now on a mountain about 100km to any town....

Cheers
David

I think bgkast was requesting close-up pictures of the engine and how things are hooked up.

It would really help by posting good engine pics

vacuum diag will take you part of the way, maybe get the trans shifting closer to correct. the ALDA still sounds like your issue. there should be a banjo bolt line running from the rear of the intake manifold to an electric valve. then from the valve to the a banjo bolt on the side of silver ALDA valve on the back of the injection pump. the valve elctrical connection comes from a pressure sense switch on the intake. when all is correct the boost pressure will go through the valve allowing the ALDA to give more fuel. if you over boost the electric pressure switch will block the boost signal to the ALDA reducing the added fuel and lowering the power boost down to a safe level. you can run without the valve, but it will not save you from an overboost condition. also remove the banjo fitting bolts and clean the hollow bolt on the manifold as this tends to fill with carbon. do not over tighten since it is a hollow bolt

Check to see if the bowden cable is working. It runs from the transmission to the linkage on top of the valve cover. If it is amiss, it will slow you down a whole heck of alot.

I also bet your Boost line is not hooked up to the alda. Its a clear plastic tube that runs from a banjo bolt on the back of the intake manifold across to a switchover (overboost protection) valve, and then into the alda, which is that square thing on top of the Injection Pump....it has a little cap on top of it. With no boost fuel enrichment you're looking at about 85-90hp max.....probably less than that even. With it working you'll get about 30-40 more. Big difference....

Thanks!!

Thanks for the help...

Forgot turbos make pressure and blew of the vacuum line to the injector pump.

Got all the lines clamped and rechecked all the lines to tranny, EGR ect...

Lots of power and proper shifting>

Thanks for all the help everyone...cannot thank this forum enough

That thing is classy. I love those old FC's, and the MBZ diesel gives it even an even more unique style. Nice work.

I'd like to see pictures with the camper on it. Did you put that trailer in one of the pictures onto the truck frame?
