Approximate cost/quart?

The fluid probably looks funny because it has carbon from the transmission infused in it.

Now that you got it started, there's a cool thing about the ignition. After finishing the glow cycle, simply "flick" the key to the start position and then release it. The engine will crank itself until started or for a pre-determined amount of time.
I wasn't referring to the carbon in it, but rather it has something of a greenish tint to it, at least thats the way it looks on my chrome tools. The fluid its self did not look very dirty.

I haven't tried it yet, but will it crank before the glow plug light has cycled?

I've gotten spoiled by my 05 jeep turbo diesel, that thing barely ever has to wait with the glow plug light, I am a little surprised by how long this one takes - it doesn't feel any quicker than my old 87 300SDL. Oh well, its not like I would have done anything with that time anyway.

722.6 fliud is pushing $15 per liter. Complete drain inlcuding TC takes 7.5l. Yours ought to have the TC drain plug, they disappeared ~1/2 way though 99 model year.

Newer fluid is $11L and has improved additive pack.

Picked up some parts tooday:

Got it all for $215, Hood was 100, and as you can see it has some damage, didn't have much choice in the matter because a new one was back-ordered with no idea when it would come in, overall I would have prefered to pay a little more and not have to deal with this one, oh well, beggars can't be choosers. Grill was $25, which a new one would have been $43, and AC condensor was $75, and I got that little trim piece thrown in.

Gotta get my online stuff together and get that ordered tonight.

Seriously! Are those bullet holes! Where'd you get this thing. Man!

Surely it wasn't of a diesel? I can't see a gangsta being a diesel enthusiast. Though I get some looks when I pull into the right neighborhoods with mine. Still haven't had my hood shot at yet. Maybe I better start carrying just in-case Just kidding, if they want my car they can have it! They won't be able to keep it running long without the help of this forum

Came off a '99 E320. Car had been vandalized, guy said it used to belong to a stripped. Angry customer? Pissed off wife? I'll let your imagination decide.

The holes where caused by something looking like a pickaxe.

That hood is rough! You should have waited for a straighter example!

Can't wait, need to be driving it to california in about 1.5 weeks. Also, something else would have cost 3x as much. A new aftermarket hood was $120 - but backordered. So this was my pretty much my only option to get a hood now.

got the hood on:

Passenger side housing is pretty messed up, I really don't want to spend $160 each for new headlights. The headlights on the car I got the hood from had been vandalized, so the lenses were broken. I will check and see what they want for the housings.

Otherwise we ordered $580 worth of stuff, plus the $215 I spent on the other parts. It adds up quick, easily get up over 4k once its on the road.

Ordered the last of the parts from fastline today, I expect them later in the week. Stuff adds up, oh well, still cheaper than the alternative.

We will be replacing the single vertical piece of the headlight support, which will leave me with some spare uppers.......anyone need the upper part of the headlight support?

Two steps forward, one step back:

Getting closer, tried to pressurize the AC system system today only to find it had a leaky condensor, so back to denver tomorrow to return the condensor, will make some phone calls and see if we can find another local(doubtfull), otherwise I guess another call to phil for some parts.

Getting closer:

Emissions test done, repairs done(sorta), plated, with 200 break in miles on it.

Gotta say, it drives real nice for a car with 215,000 miles on it, kinda laggy, I guess I've gotten spoiled by my Jeep with the VGT turbo. Nice sounding engine, I think sunday will be a drive up into Rocky Mountain National Park for a little high altitude break-in.

As you can see in the pics there is still bodywork to be done. I tried to pickup a new bumper cover today but as it turns out they were out of stock....grr.

So without a new bumper cover the bodywork and paint will wait. Once I get that the "speed holes" in the hood will need to be patched and that little bit of trim below the drivers headlight replaced. lucky the new hood is silver, so the whole front clip will be resprayed, which should blend nicely. Otherwise just a little hood adjustment and fender adjust and the fit&finish will be all done.

So, close:

For reference, this is what I started with:
