Smile "New 300TD Owner" 231,000 MI I have some questions

Picked this car up 2 weeks ago. Traded even up for a 93 Subaru Imprezza. I have changed the axles, rear brakes, belts, motor mount, manual primer, oil, tranny filter and fluid. Repaired a bunch of Vacuum lines. Starts easy, no smoke.
Problem 1: NO POWER. Feels like it is starting out in 2nd gear. Could it be the plastic cam looking tabs on top of the valve cover? They're both shot according to what I've seen posted on Diesel Giant.

Problem 2: Have to shift manually. If you leave it in drive, it seems like it is trying to shift down. I do not like the feeling.

Problem 3: Will not go into park and have to "hold" it forward to make reverse work. Shifting linkage seems suspect. Any ideas?

Problem 4: Sagging rear. I would love to return it to original SLS, but it may be cost prohibitive. What are the alternatives if any? I saw a kit for around $400@ Mercedes source.

Thanks in advance.

Problem 1: There is a banjo fitting at the firewall end of the intake manifold. A plastic line runs to a switchover valve on the firewall, then to a squarish device atop the injection pump. Ensure that air flows freely from the manifold to the injection pump.

Problem 3: There is a rod under the car that attaches the bottom end of the shift lever to the transmission. There is or should be a nylon(?) bushing at each end of the rod -

Look, why are you already ready to bail on the SLS??? You repair other parts of the car, why not repair the SLS???????
It is almost always the accumulators, and you might need the high pressure hose also as it will often blow after getting the system operating again.
Diagnose what it is doing prior to S-canning it in favor of a fix you will hate. The SLS is one of the very best things about an MB wagon......

I will check the banjo fitting tonight. I found a great pictorial here:

Thanks sixto

JimmyL,

As far as the SLS, where should I begin trouble shooting? The tank is dry, the pump is on the motor and the actuator that is supposed to be attached to the sway bar is there but the arm is missing. Would the pump be any good without having fluid in it for so long? At least five years, maybe longer. When you mention accumulators, Where/what are they?

I'm greatful for any help
Thanks

They are some of the biggest ripoffs on the internet, avoid Mercedes$ource.

I haven't purchased anything from there yet. I did notice they are a little pricey. I bought the axles from NAPA for $106.00 ea, the primer from Rock Auto $6.80, the rear rotors for $24.00 ea from NAPA, the side seals from Mercedes Complete for $6.00 ea. I ordered these at 2pm and got them the next day UPS ground. Charlotte NC to Powder Springs GA. Impressive. The Motor mounts from NAPA $18.00 ea the compressor from Advance for $139.00.
I Shop around, I noticed that the only kit to replace the SLS was on Mecedessource, but I think I'm leaning towards repairing it.

How does their kit replace it? Others on this forum have replaced it with shocks and been less than satisfied.

This is the link for the kit. I think it is is too expensive for what's in it.
