Vacuum pump suction

What should the vacuum be with a good pump? Mine is 16" but I read some people have 22", etc..

Also should you be able to hear it running?

I'd be concerned with only 16". Where are you checking? Are you able to isolate a possibly leaky brake booster?

IMHO 16" is too low but you could have a leak that is loading down the pump. If you disconnect everything except your vacuum gauge and the pump still gets down to only 16" Hg then the pump may be bad.

I've never heard any identifiable sounds from any Mercedes vacuum pump. Others with more experience may wish to venture an observation.

i had a similar problem. I checked my vacuum at the booster line and it was 16. I blocked off all the lines and just checked the booster line itself and it read 22. So you basically have to branch off and try to isolate where the leak is coming from. Its a very tedious process as I am not great with cars but know my way around them. It turned out that im having trouble with my VCV (I think- its located just next to my ALDA...right?)

I took a reading right from the pump and it was 22" so it's good. I found that my vcv was leaking also and kind of buzzes as it's losing vacuum.

Thanks for the help. Now I have to find a vcv that someone will separate from an IP.
