Alternator Removal-What am I missing here?

I am trying to remove the alternator in my 84 300D. I have the lower bolt out and the rear nut from the upper bolt off. It seems that the upper bolt is connected to the tension adjutment on the front side of the alternator and is kept from sliding out in either direction. What am I missing here?

From the top you see a bolt close to the block. That bolt comes out.
The other bolt is part of the ajustment assy. It comes out with the altenator. From under the car you will see a second bolt close to the block. That bolt comes out then the whole unit will fall on your head or fasten a coat hanger to the alt. and lift out from the top

I see it but thought this bolts the bracket to the block and stays in. I was following a writeup of the procedure but I believe I misinterpretted the instructions. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I will be back under there tomorrow evening.

That is the write up I was following. I think step 3 is confusing:

"3. Loosen alternator belt tension adjustment bolt, remove from alternator and bracket."

The next writeup in that thread is clearer and I would have been better off following it.

Thanks again for your help.
