aux fan and ac

Hello,
Just curious, does the aux fan influence the functionality of the ac in any way? My aux just stopped working and when I went to test my ac......Just hot air.
Thanks
A

The aux. fan drops the temperature across the condenser and increases the efficiency of the system. It typically does very poorly at idle..........the fan help s this dramatically.

YES!!!
Without the aux fan and the vehicle stopped or in slow traffic, there isn't enough airflow over the condenser to dissipate the latent heat in the refrigerant--this leads to increased head pressure and the over pressure switch on the receiver dryer cuts the compressor off to prevent damage to the system. Drive the car at highway speeds, if all is well, your fuse is blown or your fan is toast or both. If you have an early SN, it's in the fuse box, if it is later production--post march of 87--it should have the 30A strap fuse on top of the shock tower.

is the aux fan ever employed to assist in the cooling of the engine itself? I have removed my A/C and drier and am curious if this will have adverse effects on cooling under stress.

It might help a little bit idling/in city traffic. You could wire it up so that it comes on or doesn't with a switch when you need an extra little bit of cooling.

Above something like 20mph, though, the forced airflow is more than any of the fans can provide so it doesn't matter that much.

Yes, it will hurt airflow over the radiator.

^^ b/c the Aux fan is in the way and not doing anything, or b/c it is supposed to turn on via dryer?

The aux fan might not have caused the AC issue, an AC issue might be causing the aux fan not to come on.
The aux fan comes on when the line from the condenser to the rec/dryer reaches a certain temperature. If you AC isn't working, of course your evap isn't cold so no cold air, but your condenser isn't dissipating heat therefore not getting hot enough to activate aux fan.
Does your compressor come on?
