... why would you use a 4cylinder to power that car?.. you have so much room in that engine bay.. throw a 603 or atleast a 617 in there.. the fact is with the smaller engine its going to be lugging to get you to highway speeds so it will actually kill your gas milage ask forced, he runs the VNT turbo and stomps it everwhere and he gets great gas mileage.

I thought about this swap only cause I have both cars and my finace is limited I love the sel but gas so high I can't win

In that case, I would just sell the SEL and buy a daily commuter car that gets better mileage, this engine swap will make the car worthless.

Souds like you would be better off selling both and buying something with a 4cy and FWD.

My vote.
My vote is for you to find another W201 body to accept the 2.2 Diesel transplant. The 2.3 gassers are plentiful, and it's not too hard to find a cheap one with a bad engine or a bad trans.
The key is to find a W201 body with NO RUST. If you find a clean body shell with no rust, the rest is just plug and play. SteveM.
