S350 w/ Bent Rod Syndrom

I have my eye on a 95 S350 that someone locally has for sale, It has 165,000 miles on it. it is in perfect shape when it comes to all the electrics as well as interior and exterior and in my favorite color combinations Silver/Blue. It is hard to find the blue interior.

It has all Service Books since new, Religously serviced at HBL in Tysons Corner, VA.

I can get it for a song because it has the infamous bent rod syndrom, It was burning a ton of oil. The dealer told the owners they needed a new engine, they then took it to a friend of mine, non Dealer MB only mechanic, and after pulling the head he said the cylinders look like footballs. so the engine really is a total loss. it was running strong when he pulled the head but was burning oil like it is being poored into the intake.

Question I have is can I put a 603 3.0L out of either 87 300D or 86-89 300SD in this car, because isn't the 350 just a stroked 300? I know there is a slight power loss but i can handle that.

I believe that has been done many times on these. There is also a guy on the MBCA site who put a OM606.962 from a 98/99 E300 D-T into one which seems like a great retrofit. He has some spare motors so you might hunt him down:

Also, there is a little known goodwill program for original owners of the 140 with engines that bend rods. If the seller is an original owner then he should follow up on this (of course it means you won't be able to buy it for a song).

they are the original Owners, I wonder why HBL didn't tell them about it? HBL is one of the better dealers in the DC area. IMHO

Like I said, it is little known. There is some information here:

http://mbca.cartama.net/showthread.php?t=25313

I would contact John Blazer whose email address is in the article in the initial post and see if he can shed any light on how to get MBNA to kick in some of the cost. While the car is certainly older and with 160K miles on it, if they have a complete service history and were the original owners I'd bet they could get a new engine - maybe for nothing.

I have a good 3.5L short-block for you if you want one.

If you are going to do a transplant put an intercooled 606 in it, talk about a sweet combo! A lot more power than the smaller 603, and not much harder/more expensive.

actually I am still thinking, I am stuck with a 1990 350sdl that I am running on ester fuel, is going to have to last me a while. I haven't run a compression check yet, but it has a weak cylinder and it is a safe bet it has a bent rod, it does not use any oil yet, so if I fix it now, well you know the rest. So, if I could get the short block cheap enough....you know the rest of that story too....thanks for giving advice though, it is always welcome.
