Need help on Alternator Swap
I have my old alternator out and there is a small black plastic electronic part screwed to the back side, about 1" x 3/4" with a wire that plugs into the back of the alternator. It says FACON 2022 2.2uF Max 100 Degrees C 100V =. To move it over to the new alternator, I will have to drill and thread a hole. There is a depression on the new alternator where I can drill, but do I need to do this? What is this part and what does it do?
Thanks much for any advice.

it is a capacitor
it evens out the voltage highs and lows by storing charge and releasing when appropriate. if you have a voltage regulator, it may not be necessary- may want to research. ps.. you may be downgrading to a lower output alt. if there is no place to put that capacitor |

Hmmm. I am replacing a Bosch with a Bosch that I ordered from this website, i.e Fastlane. So it is not a cheapo replacement. I guess I do not have to necessarily screw it to the same location. There are threaded posts sticking out that I can use. That may be a good alternative option.
