Replacing vacuum lock system
 

does anyone have any info on changing the vacuum locks to electric solenoids in a 85 MB 300CD? at least it would get the doors off that system anyway. but then it would no longer be stock. :(

It may cost more to do that than to just fix your original system.

It would definitely be more work, unless the hard vac lines are all split.

You'd have to push 3 wires through each of those rubber boots to get juice to the solenoids...I did it on the driver's door so I could have keyless entry and let the vacuum open the others, but I wouldn't want to have to do it on all of them (well, you do have a coupe, so two doors wouldn't be too bad). Also, you have to bend your own custom connection rod from the solenoid to the lock knob on each door and mount the solenoid inside each door.

All that said, if you did that, it should work fine. However you'd have to lock the trunk manually, and the fuel door wouldn't lock. You can get kits on ebay for around $40 that have two remotes and 2 or 4 solenoids. Its not hard work, just a little tedious. Plus, your vacuum system might not need that much attention...have you checked through it?

I did the same thing. It helps save wear on the door locks by not having to use the key.:cool:

I did this as well on my sd. I was planning to just do the drivers door as stated prior but my trunk vac pump was kind of flakey. I ended up doing all the doors. It is a bit of a hassle to run the wires. You only have 2 doors so shouldn't be too bad. Maybe you can hook upthe trunk w/ the left over selenoids.
I am glad I did it. Much more convient getting in and out quickly and more reliable than my old set up.

It would be a lot easier to retrofit a later model electronically controlled air pump from the 1996 and later W124/W210 series. You can also integrate with a keyless system that way as well.
