Try this before adjustinng the ALDA

Before adjusting the ALDA, carefully remove the banjo bolts holding the air tube to the intakemanifold and the banjo bolt holdinfg the air tube to the ALDA. Spray some carb cleaner through the bolts and through the tubes. Over time they can get clogged and cut off the pressure to the ALDA. You can also spray some carb cleaner into the overboost switch tubes to make sure they are clear.

If your EGR is still hooked up. disconnect it to keep most of the gunk from coming back.

I adjusted my ALDA only after making sure the lines were clear, adjusting the valves, and disabling the EGR. I turned it about 3/4 turn and it did make a difference, but only a slight one on thhe OM617 in my 300SD. Removing it on the OM603 inn the SDL made a world of difference. I don't think the 617 responds the same way as the 603 when it comes to ALDA adjustments.

I just moved up to Old Snowmass, CO at 7,000+ feet from basically sea level back home in CT. I immediately have noticed two changes in the '84 300TD Turbo at this higher altitude: 1) it was super, super slow off the line (perfectly fine back home at sea level) and 2) it has a little more trouble starting whereas it used to fire up on the first crank back home. I turned the ALDA screw out one whole turn and it has made a world of difference as far as starting from idle. I don't think there's anything I can do about the hard starting though and I don't want to think about what's going to happen when the cold weather comes. Anyway, thanks for the info...
