Vacuum line with broken Barb

The Vacuum line with my finger on it has a broken conection. What is it called? Where can I buy the replacement piece? Also what does it control?

You would do well to eliminate all three lines from that black box and toss out the rubber plug. On your vehicle, the lines are only for the control of EGR.

Two of the lines go to the left side of the vehicle and end in T's. Just pull the lines and pull the T's and toss 'em. You are left with two lines (at each T location) that need to be joined together with a short piece of vacuum hose.

The third line goes from the black box to the temperature vacuum switch on the thermostat housing. Just pull this line and toss it.

I have a similar leak. But, I thought the lines going into the black box helped control the little white vacuum levers inside. And these helped with the transmission or some shifting.

Can someone clarify this for me? (before I get brave)

There are indeed vacuum lines that have to do with controlling the transmission but these are not them. As Brian says, they can be safely eliminated.
