Banjo Bolt Woes 84 300TD
Went to clean the banjo bolt on the back of the intake manifold and alas, PO had screwed a 5/18X1/2" hex head bolt in its place. I looked above in parts and did a google search but had no luck in finding the bolt. Does anyone no where I can get a replacement? I think I can chase the threads with a tap since the "bad" bolt was barely in there. Does any one no the correct thread size?
Thanks 1984 300TD 231,000 |

I can hear him now. "Hey Gertrude, this here bolt has got a hole in it. I'll fix it. See if there is anything on that old Snapper lawn mower that'll fit in this here hole."

Classic. You probably nailed it.
I'm sick, I hope the threads aren't to screwed. |

Just don't do it with the manifold on the engine.

I'm thinking I'll rig a copper line to the shopvac and get as much as I can rather than pull the intake manifold. Never done it so I'm a little uncomfortable taking it off. I've used that trick on blind holes and it works well. I know this isn't a blind hole, but like I stated, I'm uncomfortable.

If you have an EPCnet account (free) you can look up the part number and just get a new banjo bolt from the dealer. I'm sure they can't be too expensive.

Make sure the intake valve is closed first.

I'm hoping this will solve the no power and shifting issues. I replaced the vacuum levers on top of the valve cover and was planning on cleaning the banjo bolt and, well you know the rest. Looks like she's an jack stands till next weekend AGAIN. I need to adjust the valves too. I'll order those this week too. Thanks Bill |

This is excellent advice, thick grease like wheel bearin grease so that the chips will stick to the grease. After that take your car for a ride and let the turbo pressure blow air out of the hole and anything else that might be left over. Get another banjo bolt from a junk yard. If you do not want to pull it yourself just call and find a junk yard that will pull one for you and at what price.
