Somewhat cold...still with R12. Was charged three years ago and I think it is starting to get low. Don't have any gauges so I can't check, but last time it was charged they put dye in it so the shop might be able to find where it's coming from. Fingers crossed it's not the evaporator!

All 3 W123's at idle for very long work up to 60 degrees with temps over 90. {was 101 today!}
That is R12, Freeze12 and R134a.
The W123 is just a limited system. My F-150 actually gets colder sitting and idling than it does driving. About 40 while driving, will drop to almost 32 when idling. I didn't even think that was possible.......

Neither of mine work at all,

but then I only wish they did a very few days a year here (western Canada). I'm thinking they are both gonna get ripped out and the space used for intercoolers eventually.

If the temps are over 100º F, I get around 50º F on the vents. Under 90º F and under I get around 38º to 42º F.

I don't ever recall ever being inside a Ford with a crappy a/c. And it gets hot here!

I was running Freeze 12. But it bogged down my car. Now I am running R12 it is not bogging down the car but getting surprisingly the same performance. I am also running an ACkits parallel flow condenser with both of the refrigerants.

I think I need to tint my windows to improve performance or maybe clean out the evaporator to increase air flow to help when the higher outside temps hits.

I'm not real cold but cold enough running ES 12 in my 1983 300D. Ice cold when moving though and in 110F* temps!

The workshop book says the test to do is to rev at 1500 and open all windows and put ac on max. Then you look at the chart. A W123 gets about 50F with 85F ambient I believe.

Also, instead of R12, have a look at Enviro-safe R12 replacement. $6 a can on ebay. I'm going to try it in my 240D.

I've got 3 cans out in the garage that I purchased to put in China, which has the R134a. I think she is doing about as good as R134a can do. Yesterday it was 101 and moving I got down close to 50. That is about all R134a in a W123 can do at those temps.
I may try the Envirosafe and see what happens. If that doesn't work out, then it will be complete flush, rec/dryer and maybe an exp. valve and R12. I haven't wanted to go R12 based on need to flush and my compressor chirping.........
Envirosafe doesn't require installing into a vacuum as it doesn't create acid like other freons. That is just so weird to contemplate......

I've read that claim, but have read about installers who do pull a full vacuum. Leaving noncompressibles in the system will raise your high-side pressure under the same conditions. Thus, your compressor works harder to do the same cooling, and you are not getting the full benefit of running a HC refrigerant. You might as well run 134a.

ES says that charging into only a partial vacuum helps prevent overcharging. However, you can prevent overcharging very easily into a full vacuum. In fact, you do it the same way that you would with Freon or Suva. You simply don't put too much in.

I'm lucky if I get down below 65*, whether running or at idle. At idle, there is little if any cooling. Using 134a & aux. fan is not running.

Unfortunately for me, my 20 minute drive home (stop and go............mostly stop) barely allows time for the interior of my car to cool down enough to notice. The few times I have been able to drive it for more than 10 minutes without stopping the AC seems to do OK. I am sure it would be better if the majority of the air wasn't blasting against my raging hot glass stove top/windshield.
