Carmax buys cars and they they resell it at an auction most likely to one of those local small dealers. They only keep newer cars so I know your car was sold at auction to another dealer. Dealers never have to register the cars with the dmv. So if it gets sold again by that dealer and THAT person never gets a tag for it, you will be the last person to have tagged the vehicle.
