190D needs new head

I have seen this car on San Diego CL for a couple of weeks now. I really like the 190d's but worry this car is a can of worms waiting to be opened. So I thought i'd solicit more knowledgeable opinions here.. the ad reads as follows:

THIS IS A FIXER OR PARTS CAR! IT IS NOT RUNNING NOW - NEEDS COMPLETE HEAD JOB.THE CYLINDERS ARE IN GREAT SHAPE AND IT WILL RUN GREAT BUT WHO EVER GETS IT
WILL NEEED TO SPEND $250 ON PARTS AND $250 ON LABOR TO FIX IT! AFTER THAT IT WILL PAY FOR ITSELF PRETTY QUICK! FOR MORE INFO CALL :858-245-2278

So to me $500 to fix the heads, never mind whatever else it needs, seems like nice optimistic salesmanship.

Any opinions?

What's wrong with it.

My 2 cents - you don't want to know how much the current owner thinks it will cost to fix.

You want to know what is wrong with the car.

Alternatively, let the current owner fix it for $500, and then he can sell it as a running car. (maybe to recoup his $500).
