Been Awhile... Parting with a W123

Haven't been around much lately due to many other projects taking me away from tinkering with and enjoying our MB diesels. Unfortunately we need to part with our current favorite to help fund home construction, so for those interested she's on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320264464055

Thanks all! This is the place that helped me do what needed to be done!

Looks very familiar!

I don't guess you collected an extra hubcap or 2 along the way?

LOL, unfortunately no extra hubcaps or you'd be golden! Love that color, wish we could keep but the herd needs to be thinned. After this one goes then the '82 300D Turbo with the 4-speed manual will go on the block. I'm trying to hang on to the W116 as I love the styling and the 240D as I want to put the engine in our Austin Champ. We'll see!

WOW a really nice car. What an adventure it would be to fly in and drive her back to Southern Ca. Alas I need to R & R the tranny in my 560SEC. If I were looking for a nice car. I'd certainly try to buy this one and drive her back home!

Beautiful car! I'm in Orlando, wouldn't mind coming to take a look at it. Looks like its a Euro model from the VIN?

Shouldn't one use Dot 4 in these cars?

Man, that is purdy, I am tempted to bid and I am nowhere near and can't afford it!

Please post when you put your other up for sale...

What's the HP? Since its a '78, its a N/A engine not a turbo right?

Thanks all, it truly is a nice car and all the "hard" stuff has been done leaving some pretty basic body work and getting the sunroof working. That's always a fun task! I'm such a parts-whore that I've accumulated so many bits for this car like the seals and such, just never enough time! Currently working on an M35A2 and an '86 Mack Midliner plus building a house... just got my hands full.

I'm not sure what the rated HP is on the N/A diesel, but if you use the kick-down it'll scoot. I didn't get into the vacuum tuning on the tranny but the Mobil-1 ATF really helped, but I still think it could be shifting a little smoother.

I doubt it's a Euro model as none of the gauges are in metric although I'm not sure how common clear driving lenses are. Feel free to come take a look though, just shoot me a PM. I'll likely be wrenching on her this weekend as the alternator belt just started squealing which is one thing I dislike about new belts. Bleh!

Chadahar: I'd love to drive it out to you if you'd cover expenses and a one-way home! She's a majorly nice ride and the cruise down from PA was awesome, especially coming down through the Shenandoah Valley in the late afternoon.

I'll definitely post up when we get the 300D stick-shift ready. Not nearly as pretty but definitely a hot-rod!

I thought it had to be Euro because the VIN listed isn't in the standard US format. It's all numbers (12313012098) beginning with the chassis code. My 240D, with all metric on the cluster, has letters and numbers. *shrug*

The HP rating should be on the sticker inside the engine bay, it lists the displacement, fuel consumption rate, valve clearances, etc.

Rallyrebel,
NAW. I'd fly in and drive her back. I love adventures. I'd have to side trip to Chadbourn N.C. and see my Grand nephew, nephew and my sis. I can't get near, unless I come and see'm. A Trip back US 40 and Route 66 would top it off.

Ah Yes One Can dream. And Drool.........

I am watching it. One of my friends pestered me to death last night about selling him Sweet Abigail and if he comes through with the cash today I just may bid on it. Does South West fly into Florida? I happen to have a voucher that'd cover a One way to Fla.

LOL, I know about "adventures"! I have a 1970 International CO-4070A Transtar (that's a semi tractor for the curious) that was an eBay win which had sat in a farmer's field for about 25 years. I flew out and drove it back from Kansas after replacing the broken windshields and replacing 10, count 'em, TEN tires and one pair of split rims with some used one-piece wheels. Oh, and I've never driven a semi before let alone anything with a 15-speed unsynchronized transmission. It wasn't a trip, it was a journey!

Southwest does in fact fly into both Orlando and Tampa, with Orlando the nicer of the two and closer to I-95 and Tampa right off I-75. If you decide to take the plunge I'll be sure to give her a good pre-trip!

Rallyrebel,
Ah Yes I know those Journey's well. My dad was an 18 wheeler driver and when I was 17 I rode along on a longer trip. About halfway He made me drive(actually taught me to drive the rig). I did so well when we got home, he had me take the rig to the barn. I had about an inch of clearance of the rear view mirrors to back the rig into the barn. I did it on the first try. WHEW!

Alas It is not to be. I'll not be bidding on your car.
I need my tranny fixed in my 560SEc and dear Sweet Abigail gave her life(with Me) ,so that Mariah might once again tread the hiways and byways(not DIRT) with a newly rebuilt Transmission. I really could not see taking the tranny out and R & Ring it without going through it completely. It's time.

My Indy gave me such a good quote that I can not refuse. She'll even get a ride on the rolloff truck.

Hope whomever gets your diesel gives her a good home.

The non Turbo 300D from that year is rated at 83 Horsepower.
