Flush and proper coolant fluid for my MB?

What is the proper coolant fluid for my 1982 Turbo Diesel? Also I would like to do a coolant flush. I was reading up on the citric acid one and I would rather not have a problem develop from me making a mistake. Is there a way to flush the system with just water?

Also where can I find the proper amount of coolant that I will need when I do change the coolant fluid?

Either MB coolant or Zerox G5 or whatever its called. I don't know what the fill is on a W123, but its probably about 10ish quarts. It does list it in the back of the owners manual.

H2O flush

1.Find the radiator drain plug...drain the radiator.
2.Find the block drain...(If it has one)...drain.
3.Close both drains...fill system with H2O(Follow your model's "Burping"
procedure...No Air Pockets!).
4.Run engine until warm with the heater on ,so that the heater core is rinsed...and then 30 mins.

Repeat 1,2,3 and 4 three to five times( all you're doing is "rinsing" the system
that's why you have to do it so many times!)

Drain system final time ...close valves ...fill with a 50/50 mix of Zerex G05 and
DISTILLED water...
"Burp" the baby.You're done.

I currently have Zerex radiator cleaner in my system now. It is non-acidic so i will not hurt anything like the citric acid could. I have to drive it for 3 to 6 hours and then drain it out and re-fill with coolant. I got a gallon of Zerex G-05 coolant at NAPA for 12.99.

The MBZ maintenance library for the W123 says you may use water for flushing, but baking soda is recommended w/the water. They don't say how much.

I have a few questions.

Where is the MBZ library? I also have seen a great diagram of where the drain bolt is on the engine block does someone have the link. It also described the easiest way to get to it.

Plain water isn't going to remove anything, sadly, especially rust or calcium deposits. The flush you are using probably contains EDTA, which will at least remove some of the rust and calcium, if not all of it.

Best to use the citric acid as directed, with a thermostat wedged open or the proper tool (one that does not close). Total time with citric acid in the system is short, you aren't supposed to drive around with it in there, and if you have even minimally hard water, a couple rinses will take care of it.

Use only MB coolant or Zerex G-05, anything else won't prevent the aluminum parts corroding. Not a problem for you, particularly, as the only aluminum parts are the water pump and thermostat housings/hose nipples, but for those of us with aluminum heads, it's vital.

Well I looked last night also, still no luck with those great pictures. I know it showed the car up on a jack with the rim off and turned.

When I removed the engine block bolt it had no washer and when I removed the Plug underneith the radiator it has a destroyed O ring. What are the part numbers/names and a source for these parts?

On one of my cars, the washer was there; on the other, it was absent--no problems with leaks on either one. Sorry, can't help with other questions...
