Replacing door lock actuator 81 300SD

The rear driver's side door finally refused to unlock so I decided to get out the Mityvac and look into all the door lock problems. Tested the threeway in the front channel passenger side. Got 25 inches of vac on the left tube, 25 psi (not vacuum) on the right, and nothing in the middle. For a 27 year old car the vacuum pump (works fine) and most of the rubber connections and yellow tubes were good. Got good vac 20-25 inches from everything except the path to the rear left door.

FYI inside right upper side of the trunk contains the actuator for the fuel tank door and a splitter. It has two bolts which if slightly unscrewed slip out to larger holes for removal. Do not worry about pulling the rod out of the fuel tank door; it is easy to put back. Hard to test these connections with it hidden in the back fender well of the trunk.

I removed the cover from the inside door handle of the errant door, pulled the lock lever forward with pliers, and finally got the rear right door unlocked. This is necessary to remove the door panel and get to the actuator. Unfortunately I forgot that the door panel did not have pop rivets and I broke one of the plastic clips which snugs it to the frame. Not sure what to do about that.

The door lock actuator held vacuum fine so I took it apart. Inside is a rubber diaphragm; glued to the top of the diaphragm is a plastic tee. The leg of the tee moves north/south through the top of the actuator and connects to the door lock rod with a removable pin. The leg of the tee was broken. I drilled holes and screwed a metal plate to rejoin the plastic leg but the screw heads would not pass through the top of the actuator well and it would not work. Except for that I think the actuator is OK.

Last night I ordered another actuator on line. The ad said that if I replace the old actuator with a new stock number actuator( which I did) I would need a vacuum plug and 50mm of vac hose. I did not order it and will make another post as I move forward.

Old actuator part number is 000 800 71 75
Replacement part has a number of 04010-25112 but I think that might be a sku which applies only to seller www.***************.

Exact wording... " Rear door when superseding from old part number 000 800 71 75, (1) 202 800 04 53 vacuum plug and 50mm of 007 997 61 82 vacuum hose are also required." Has same note for rear and front door right side.

If the new door lock actuator has the same three bolt hole configuration and the plastic shaft pins into the lock rod, should be easy replacement. But we shall see. Too bad I could not figure out how to repair the leg of the tee that broke.
