606.9 fuel starvation problem

I’m struggling with a fuel system issue on my 98 300TD (143k). When I leave it parked uphill overnight, it will not start in AM (turns over, but not getting fuel). Had it to my mechanic yesterday and we spent 2 hours checking out the plastic fuel lines from the fuel tank to the injection pump (no bubbles) even when we elevated the front end 30 degrees for 30 minutes. All of the plastic fuel lines were completely replaced about 30,000 miles back and the injection pump was resealed about 8,500 miles ago.

When the vehicle is left to “drift” to level pavement, it will (with consistent cranking) get its “prime” back and eventually fire, suggesting that the fuel system is losing its “prime” while parked uphill. When parked on the level or downhill, there is no problem. Anyone have similar experiences or any idea what’s happening here?

It'll be one of the 'O' rings on one of those nasty plug-in fuel-lines...

Your guess is as good as anyones as to which one!

You've got a leak you havent addressed yet.

Did you replace the oring behind the SOV?

When was the last time you changed the oring on the bolt holding the spin on fuel filter down?

Almost guaranteed it's the prefilter o-ring.

Undo the small bolt to the left of the main filter, take off the retainer, and pull out the prefilter. The o-ring is at the top near the fuel intake line.

Failure of this seal will cause fuel to drain back to the level in the tank because it's on the vacuum side of the fuel pump: fuel is sucked through the prefilter, into the fuel pump, and out to the main filter and the rest of the injection system.

Yep. There are others but it is most probably this one as it is most often overlooked.
