Manualy Operation power seats?

Is there anyway to manually move a power seat? My passenger seat is stuck in a REAL bad position (over 90* forward) and I would like to just sit it in a better position until I can sort some more problems out. It is the back is all I need to move, about 20* or so back. I tried to jump the wires, but all the ones that control the back movement have no power in the door. Thanks for your help everyone!

Oh, BTW, it's and 82 300sd saloon.

Make a pair of jumper leads and power the motor directly.

That is what I was thinking, but I can't seem to find anywhere that any wires are exposed without removing the seat? Any idea how I can get into them?

Been there, done that.

I have done it before (made a jumper). What I did is cut the plug and leads from a junkyard donor to make the jumper. Strip the ends of all the wires on the plug.

Then make a twin lead set of "jumper cables", attach them to a battery, and jumper directly to the plug harness. You will have to figure out which pairs of wires do what, but you should be able to make the seat move any way you need it to go.

My current SDL was like that....had to practically "lay down" in order to be in the driver seat. All the plugs on my w126 plug into the memory board, unplug them all, and attach negative to one and positive to the other pins within ONE plug and you will get some type of movement. Your 82 300SD (probably does not have memory) may have plugs or connectors under the seat. A strong light will help find them.

Good luck.

I tried that to no avail. None of the wires that worked the back did anything. I just got the door back together. That is why I was curious if I could move it from the seat.

Daw_two, thanks, I will try to find a connection under there.

If the motor is burned up though, anyone know if there is anyway to move it without the use of power? Like manually turn the motor or something...?

Lift the carpet under the front of the seat and you will see a connector plug. seperate this plug and use the jumper idea here on the side that goes to the motors. Maybe some one can jump in here that knows what color wires go to the motor for the backrest.
