I am trying to solve a problem with my 83 300sd. Every so often when I restart it ( after it has warmed up) it is difficult to start. Usually it will start and run poorly- idles OK , sounds OK, very litttle power. If I shut it off and give it a long glow cycle it will be fine. Also if I leave it for more that 10 mins it is usually fine. Cold starts are good , even at 10F. I am thinking that there is a problem with the vacuum shut off not fully venting when I go to restart. Is this possible? Could there still be some slight vaccum applied to the shut off valve causing it to starve for fuel. I am thinking of teeing in a gauge to check this.
How does this system work with the key? How does it vent? How can I check it?
