The future of fuel....

This definitely is something that needs to be further examined.

Imagine, an oil engineered for our engines !!

Algae has been "the solution" for years, yet nobody can pull it off.

Oh Algae is being pulled off... just wait and see... very soon you are going to hear about a few break throughs that are going to revolutionize the extraction of Oil from Algae.

Algae is already working! We made some algae Biodiesel right here in the Phoenix West valley.

Not really.....unlike the Ethanol debacle and the hydrogen long term issues, producing veggy oil is very viable, and with algae, probably the best solution to solve movable energy.

With electricity, you're just transferring the pollution source and you still have a storage issue, along with the long range issue.
With Hydrogen, conversion is extremely energy intensive, and storage is also an issue.
With Ethanol, it is just not energy efficient to produce and lacks the BTUs for realistic production.

While Bio-Diesel might not be the total solution in the next 10 years, it can help make a dent in overseas requirements. With added research, it could easily be a long term solution or at least a big piece in the overall puzzle.

I think ethanol is still in its infancy. Right concept, but needs to progress to celluose and butanol. Alge oil shows promise, also bioD from waste oil etc. I wouldn't count out electrics. I've seen the progress in electric R/C. About 10 years ago, only a few people in Isreal were messing with lithium ion batteries in micro stuff. Elsewhere it was nicad, can motors or cobalt motors. Now you can walk into any hobby shop, lithium ion batteries and brushless motors are the norm. I still see a lot of potential for solar power. As oil prices increase and the cost of solar decreases, is looks more viable. I think its at the stage where is almost pay up front, but save down the road. Sort of rent vs buying a house.

I wasn't trying to point that out ... I just wanted to add more info. I think algae for biodiesel has HUGE potential especially with the ability to customize the carbon chains for specific fuel requirements.

I think this info deserves to be bumped to the top as often as possible. I'm surprised at how many people STILL haven't even heard about it.

Algae for biofuels is essentially "solar". I think passive solar building techniques and solar PV are ripe. People are thinking smarter in designing new products. I'm impressed with the solar roof shingles that are better insulating, lighter, and longer lasting than standard asphalt shingles. You don't only have to choose HUGE unsightly panels anymore.

No worries! Let's just think of it this way...

If three people have started three separate threads trying to spread this information, it's gotta be good!

I can't wait to get some of that stuff. They can probably regulate it very well.

The biodiesel I get, is pretty hard to come by (and inconvenient at the same time, being in difficult to use 5 gallon jugs). That...and they always seem to set the price just above #2 .
