Which direction does the motor mount bolt rotate??
I am trying to get loose the motor mount bolts (the ones from underneath that go up into the arm) (8mm allen), they seem reeal tight...I want to be sure I am rotating them in the right direction before I apply real force to them....don't want them rounded out...
Anyone know which way (when looking up from below) they rotate? Car is the 1982 300SD in my sig

Same as any other righty tight, lefty loosey. If you are looking at the bolt from under the car, rotate counter-clockwise. Just make sure to clean out the allen socket and also give the socket a tap or two with a hammer to make sure it's seated all the way. Also wouldn't hurt to try some penetrating oil and or some heat to break it loose. You really don't want to strip that bolt!
If it does get stripped the proper size torx bit will fit in the socket with several ounces of persuation, ie. a hammer. I've used this technique on many allen socket bolts.

Whew! Now make sure when you put them back in that you don't get them cross threaded, aks me how I know!. The arm that is mounted to the engine is aluminum, so be carefull. I think that is the hardest part about changing motor mounts in these cars.

Put some anti-seize on the bolts during reassembly; it will help the next person who has to do motor mounts on that car.

And don't use the torque spec in the Haynes Manual; it's way too high.

While we are changing motor mounts....we're also changing the engine...
We're just about set to pull the motor next weekend...that should be fun! Just some wires and a couple hoses and the shifter linkage to disconnect, and out she comes!

impact gun ftw, make sure that you get that allen socket in there as far as it can go, its better to snap off the bolt in the motor mount than have to drill out a stainless steel bolt a propane torch is your friend!
