Could be the starter solenoid getting heat soaked. Had older GM cars do that. When the cooled off, started not problem, but sometimes would not start after running. Replaced the starters and solenoids, end of problems.
From what I have seen the starter on the OM617,95x it a real PITA to replace.

Update
I had my indy replace the starter yesterday after getting it to fail (while hot) and testing it. He put in a rebuilt heavy-duty Bosch, so all should be good now. The old starter never seemed slow, but what a difference with the new one!

Good to hear the shop was able to reproduce the problem, now you can have some confidence that it's really fixed.
