Took the Bosio Plunge

200k on the injectors and they tested badly. 3 of them needed new nozzles. Bought some nozzles for my 606 motor from Kerma TDI. I shopped around and it was about $44 apiece plus shipping. They even gave me a free T-Shirt. Next up the line was DieselGiant at $51. Ordered it on Mon afternoon and got it on Wed Noon. 2 day Fedex. So far, it seems OK. They arrived in a box wrapped in some wax paper and wet with oil. The Bosio nozzles seem to look like the OEM French ones.

Injectors are on the bench with the nuts loose at this time but not disassembled since I wanted to do them tonight.

Like the narrative HERE, it seems to have the 3 holes drilled in them too.

How well they work we shall see.

Keep us up to date how it goes.

Are you planning to balance them too or just replace nozzles and re-assemble?

I will replace the nozzles and re-assemble then send it out for testing tomorrow and get them back that night. Install will be Thu night or Fri night.

Do you have a close-up shot of the pintle? I read somewhere that some replacements have a contoured pintle and some have a simpler pointy pintle.

How about haveing the shop write down the opening pressures they get during the pop test and reporting back.

I will. I suspect they will be different from the French Bosch ones though

Per MB spec, new nozzles were to be around 115-125 which is where most were. 2 were at 140. Spray pattern was good. Cost me $25 to test and readjust the 2 that were out.

Notes:

Pop tested and reset 2 injectors that were at 140 BAR. Others were at 125 BAR spec. Made no other repairs.

I didn't see any holes on the pintle. You're not talking about the 3 holes on the top of the nozzle are you?

You're sure about that? I don't know specifically about the OM606 turbo but all the previous MB turbodiesels call for 135 bar.

My bad, the 3 holes on top of the nozzle. The pintle is solid.

That is what I told them to go to because that is what WIS said. I printed it out for them

Interesting...back in 2006 you had them set at 135 instead of 115-125.

From your OM 606 Injector Removal post on 6/24/2006:

"Well, it would cost me $50 to find out each time. That is what they charge to test the injectors. And they charged me a little more to disassemble that one bad one they found and clean it up.

5 injectors were at the right pressure, 135 bar and 1 was leaking and had bad spray pattern. Wife reported that the car feels much smoother and "glides" now. Besides, it was time to take the glow plugs out and make sure they are not siezed up.

Thanx to you, I now have the right tool for the right job. It is basically a thin 22mm very deep socket with a part of it gouged out. It was about $20 from the dealerhship.

Thanx for your help"

What's stamped on your injectors? I bet it's 135 bar. I'd say when in doubt, go for the higher value as the pop pressure can only go down over time.

It is stamped 135 bar and that was what I had it at previously.

At that time, I didn't read WIS and just let them adjust it at whatever pressure they wanted. This time I used the WIS spec. Should I have them reset it at 135?

According to WIS:

Specifications:

115 - 125 bar for new or newly adjusted nozzle, at least 110 bar for used nozzle. Depending on thickness of washer, ejection pressure higher or lower. 0.02mm results in pressure difference of approx 2-3 bar.

The reason I was curious some people feel they can swap the nozzles and not have them pop tested. In this case 25bar difference between the highest and the lowest is a considerable difference (to me). I think the $25 was well spent.
