81 300SD Where is the door lock vacuum reserve container?
Door locks still not working. I took a look at the vac pump but cannot find where the reserve vacuum container(s) is. CD shows a set of what look like briquets all connected together in the trunk lid to hold reserve vacuum. Nothing in my trunk lid. Could it be under the car?

There is no vacuum reserve, there is an electric vacuum pump in the trunk though, is there any noise from the trunk when you lock/unlock the driver door?

Thanks for the reply. I have been joining in a thread called 83SD door lock woes - and it tracks my problem.
I replaced a left rear door actuator and the locks then worked somewhat but not perfectly. Then I took apart the air pump and nothing has worked since. (Wish I had left well enough alone!) There is still a vac leak - middle air line in channel at front passenger seat (that is probably why it worked somewhat after I replaced the one bad actuator) - and the leak goes back to the pump. However I get no vac in the pump when I check with the mityvac. The pump is still pumping after I put it back together but all - yes, all - the locks are not working. Thought there might be a leak in the vac reserve container but guess not per your response. Scratching my head. Here is one of my old posts: Could not wait for answers so I took apart the air pump today. Before that I tested it with the mityvac and it would not hold vacuum. So I took it apart. There is a "peace symbol" rubber ring inside; it looked good. Nothing else looked bad and the cam continued to work the diaphragm in and out. Put it back together. Checked again and still had no vacuum. Put it back in the car and it still seems to be working; in fact I can feel some vacuum when I place my finger over the tube. So the question - when you put the mityvac to the pump, is it supposed to hold vacuum? |

The pump is both a vacuum and pressure pump, have you tried the mityvac on both ports?
