300 SDL buying guide: advice sought

With the recent demise of my beloved 84 euro turbo 300TD, I'm looking at several options for a replacement car. On the short list is the 300SDL, just because I've always loved the look of it.

So, I'm looking for model specific advice on what to look out for (e.g. prone rust spots, head numbers, etc.).

Hatty? Brian?

If you want come by sometime and I'll be more than happy to show you my car and point out all the things you need to look out for. Your just north of New Haven if I remember correcty?

Not to much they are pretty simple and bullit proof, but a few areas. 14's are the heads that like to crack, however if not overheated they will go forever.

The big challange is going to be rust, W126's tend to rust from the inside out. The rear window sill, frame rails, jack points, and fender wells are the big areas. A lot of them have rust on the front fender wings but thats not really a big deal. Fenders are pretty cheap.

Their is an import place around here and they owner while kind of slick as must used car guys are, has a thing for W126's. Once in awhile he has something worth buying. I looked at an SDL there with Steve awhile back that was a total POS though.
