300d hose behind glove box??

This forum has helped me with Tach, AC, cruise, WVO, water leaks and vents. Now I have a question regarding a 1/2 inch rubber hose I found behind and above my glove box on my 85 300d. While fixing the center vents I noticed this hose in two piece. I am not sure what it is for and if I should try to connect them together. One piece is above the center vent area and the other about 4 inches to the right above the glove box. Any ideas?

Could it be the hose that goes from the dash intake for the temperature sensor to the blower? If it is, it needs to be repaired (looks odd, 4 i words in a row).

if its made out of foam, then its your temp sensor it goes to the small box on the dashboard right above the glovebox.

It looks like foam around the ends on both pieces. The right piece appears to drop down the right kick panel area.

Sounds like your temperature sensor hose. It connects the blower motor intake (suction) to the temperature sensor located in the center of your dash. If the hose connecting the two pieces is gone, you can fix it fairly easily (and cheaply).

MB used a foam tube that disintegrated over the years. You can replace it with foam pipe insulation, a bunch of zip-ties to hold it into place on either end (TIGHTLY!), and duct-tape (if your pipe insulation is of the split-type) to ensure minimal air leaks. I did it for my 300D in the Home Depot parking lot, and it took me ten minutes.. works like a charm after that!

Correct. This is a very common problem with ACC units, repairing/replacing the hose will make a difference in cooling/heating performance.

Reason they used foam is because it doesnt retain heat and is a good insulator so the sensor could get an accurate reading.

That's what I thought too, but the temp sensor is "upwind" of the hose, so I don't see how the hose can do anything other than pull air through the sensor on the dash.
